Then you will follow the trail to the Frigate Bird Hill, a viewpoint from which you have a beautiful view over the island. You can snorkel the shallow waters of Tijeretas Bay or Carola Beach (according to the tide your guide will take you to the best spot), where you can see sea lions, various tropical fishes, and turtles.

This day you visit the community “El Progreso” and the only freshwater crater lake of all the archipelago known as “El Junco”, where the frigate birds like to wash their wings to move apart the excess of salt on them. Afterward, explore “Cerro Colorado” to visit the Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre! Lunch at a local organic farm in the highlands. You will finish your wonderful day at one of the most beautiful beaches of the Archipelago, well-known as “Puerto Chino”. There you could see marine iguanas, Galapagos crabs, blue-footed boobies, lava lizards, sea lions, etc.

Departure at 8:00 am or 1:00 pm (depends on the availability). Once you arrive on the Island, you’ll make a dry landing. Then, you’ll go on a 1km hike to observe blue-footed booby nesting sites and two types of frigates (common and royal). The majority of this hike is over large volcanic rocks and you’ll be able to observe sea lion colonies (hence the island’s name!), including about 3 alpha males guarding over their colony and offspring. Once you’ve completed the hike, you return to the yacht and head to Playa Ochoa where you can snorkel or simply relax on its beach.

Plan your trip now!
This was a great way to experience Quito, Ecuador. Our tour guide was Ximena. Having a tour guide who is both a local and knowledgeable was great! She allowed our... read more trip and time to be flexible to our wants and needs. We skipped the chocolate tour (because we did something like on our own) and spent longer time elsewhere. We traveled with our son (14) and when we got hungry during lunch we mentioned “empanadas” and she took us to a popular local empanadas place! Delicious. Our favorite part was both the Teleferico (gondolas) and the Intenen Museum. Amazing day!!!
