Papallacta is at an altitude of 3,300 meters (10,827 feet) in Napo Province. This small village is located off the Eastern Cordilleras, on the road into the Amazon rainforest from Quito. Several hot springs and spas are located in Papallacta and a spa resort (Termas de Papallacta Spa) which is available for lodging.

By driving from Quito to Papallacta, travelers pass through several small towns before ascending to a pass over 4,000 meters tall, from where the Andean mountains and Antisana volcano are visible. Descending from the peak to Papallacta, the ecosystem shifts from Andean paramos to tropical jungle.

The excursion starts at 08:30 am from your hotel in Quito. On your way there, we pass through the valley of Tumbaco and admire the Andean scenery. At the Papallacta Hot Springs, located just on the southeast side of the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve, you can enjoy its wonderful thermal water pools. Accompanied by your guide you will enjoy a 1.5-hour walk in a private cloud forest reserve where you can admire the beauty of nature rich in flora or you can visit a private reserve which is a paradise for hummingbirds lovers and photographers. You can up to 14 species of hummingbirds (choose one of the options). After hiking or hummingbirds watching, you will go back to the Termas de Papallacta Spa where you can enjoy a delicious bath and SPA to take advantage of the medicinal benefits that these springs offer
